Free Watercolor Exhibit on the Outer Banks

Watercolor

A free watercolor exhibit is on display at the Roanoke Island Festival Park throughout July.

The Browning family has long roots on the Outer Banks.  Dixie Browning was raised on Hatteras Island in the 30′s and 40′s.  She describes her paintings as places in which to wander rather than see.  She is the co-founder of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.  Dixie also spends some of her time writing romance and mystery novels.  Her Daughter-in-law, Linda, has also taken up the art of painting and selected watercolor as her medium of choice.

Lower Gas Prices Help Make the Outer Banks an Affordable Vacation Destination

Pump GasAbout one year ago the average price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $4.11 based on a study conducted by AAA.  Gas prices have dropped this summer saving travelers an average of $1.60 per gallon.

This savings in gas is helping U.S. travelers afford summer vacations.  Despite current economic instability, travelers are taking this opportunity to discover all that the Outer Banks has to offer.  The Outer Banks is located a half of a day’s drive from most of the east coast.

Is it time to take that road trip? Vacation homes still available, call 800-395-2525 or visit www.OuterBanksVacations.com.

Outer Banks Recognized by Time Magazine

Time Magazine LogoTime Magazine has named the Outer Banks in their list of 50 Authentic American Experiences.

The Outer Banks is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic due to the large amount of shipwrecks off the coast.  Time Magazine recognized the unique experience of diving off the Outer Banks as an “Authentic American Experience.”  The graveyard of the Atlantic has claimed many ships throughout the years, wooden vessels from two hundred years ago and even a German U-boat from WWII.

Many of these wrecks require some form of dive certification, but some are open to everyone.  Two spots that might be of interests to plan one of these diving adventures would be The Outer Banks Dive Center or Nags Head Diving.  Dives from $75, including gear.

Vacation Rentals Offer Unmatched Value & Flexibility

The vacation rental industry has recently received some much needed recognition from the people at Bankrate.  In their article they highlight the fact that vacation rentals offer unmatched value and flexibility. People have been discovering the joys of having their own place to call home other than a hotel room while on vacation for years now.  Never stayed in a vacation rental Home? Here are some reasons why vacation rentals deliver the most bang for your buck:

  1. It’s cheaper. Especially if you go during the off-season, up to 50% off the peak rates. The vacation homes are usually very large so when you calculate the cost per person, it’s more affordable than you might think.
  2. You have kitchens and grills to cook yourself. You can continue to save money on your vacation if you take advantage of the kitchen and the grills usually provided in vacation homes. Family barbeques are always fun!
  3. A pool of your own! If you’re in a vacation home usually visited in the summer, chances are it has a pool that you can use all to yourself.
  4. Plenty of communal space. If you want to play board games or yard games, it’s pretty difficult in a hotel. With your own vacation home, you have living rooms and other open spaces you can take advantage of.
  5. Parking aplenty. If you go to a hotel in a popular resort area, usually you can park one or two cars a room in the hotel parking lot. With a vacation home, you can fit more cars
  6. Free Wi-Fi. Many homes include free Wifi. While paying $9 a day at a hotel isn’t horrible, vacation is not spent on a computer, so $9 to check email is a bit much (There are a lot of hotels with free Wi-Fi, but many still charge!).
  7. More likely to be pet friendly. A vacation home is more likely to be pet-friendly, which means you can save on kenneling costs. This would be virtually impossible with other lodging arrangements

Thinking about getting away this year, come discover the Outer Banks and see why this beach has become a destination for tens of thousands of visitors.  Vacation homes are still available, www.OuterBanksVacations.com, or call 800-395-2525

New Law Restricts Human Contact with Wild Horses

 2 Black Wild Horses

A new ordinance has been enacted that restricts visitors to North Carolina’s Outer Banks from approaching the wild horses in Corolla

The Currituck Board of Commissioners adopted a new ordinance last week which requires that people stay 50 feet away from these horses.

A law that was passed in 1989, restricted people within 50 feet of a horse while trying to feed the animal.  The new ordinance restricts any contact with the horses at all.

County officials have reported complaints this year concerning people mounting their children on the horses and taking pictures.  They have also reported that a women walked with the herd and disregarded warnings from officials.  This law will help Currituck County ensure the horses’ safety.
