Rip Curl Surf Contest on the Outer Banks

Rip Curl

With over $1000 in prize money and many other prizes, there is no question that the 2009 Rip Curl Grom Search will bring the Outer Banks’ best surfers out to the beach this Saturday.

Surfline.com predicts that the swell will be 2-3 ft with winds blowing out of the Southeast.

Be sure to bring the family out to watch all of the exciting action.  The event site will be Byrd St. in Kitty Hawk.  If conditions are not ideal, then the event will be moved to Bonnet St. in Nags Head.

Contest starts at 8 am with Outer Banks Boarding Company hosting a Award Ceremony, After-Party, and Benefit.  The public will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle and silent auction, featuring Rip Curl gear, a surfboard shaped by Lynn Shell, and much more!

Outer Banks Fishing Report 8.7.09

Ocean Fishing Report:  Summer on the Outer Banks usually means high humidity, hot weather and blustery southwest winds, peppered with sporadic afternoon thunderstorms, and that’s what we saw this week. Every summer along the northern beaches, between Corolla and Rodanthe, the southwest winds push the warm surface water offshore, the cooler water rises to the surface and the cool water slows the fishing.

We’re in the dog days of August and fishing has been slow along most fronts. Looks like a brief wind shift to the northeast is in the offing during the next couple days, so that might help the weekend angling prospects.
