After months of deliberation, the County of Currituck (home to the Outer Banks wild horses) and its commissioners will decide if the county will donate $1 million towards a new emergency helicopter.
This helicopter will serve as support for the Nightingale air ambulance. Currently the Nightingale performs more emergency rescues in Currituck than anywhere else in Eastern North Carolina.
Traffic becomes so thick in these areas during the summer that with cases like head trauma, the Nightingale can mean the difference between life and death.
“They save lives,” said Janet Taylor, a Currituck commissioner. “Many of those people would not live if not for Nightingale coming and getting them.” As of right now, the commissioners of Currituck seem to be split on this issue. It will be interesting to see how this issue is resolved.
