Vacation Rentals are a Great Value – Even the NY Post Says So!

Bermuda Banks

Bermuda Banks

Have you always thought that you would love to stay in a vacation rental home? Did you hesitate on booking a vacation home because you thought that it would be too costly? The truth is vacation rental homes can be significantly cheaper than hotels.

Recently, the incredible savings that vacation rentals offer was highlighted in the New York Post.  In fact there have been a wealth of websites that have been created as means to help travelers find deals on vacation homes.

You can get a house in Spain for $45 a night, and another for $450 a night — the market is extremely flexible,” says Alexis de Belloy of HomeAway.com, a listings site. “On average,” de Belloy says, “a rental is half the cost of a hotel based on square footage.” This is a value that’s especially evident when you’re traveling in a group, facing the prospect of having to book multiple hotel rooms.  The same is true on the Outer Banks, the savings from renting a vacation home can be drastic.

The Outer Banks offers great vacation rental homes for all types of travelers; small beach bungalows to large beach front estates…many with flexible payment plans and no interest!

Live Performance on the Outer Banks – Music, Comedy, Satire

A fun and captivating performance is coming to the Outer Banks:  the “discovered works” of P.D.Q. Bach, a fictional composer invented and performed by musical satirist “Professor” Peter Schickele.  The show is the sixth performance of the 27th Outer Banks Forum performing arts series, and it will take place Sat., March 27 at 7:30 p.m., at the First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills.

“Revel in an evening of humor and music with the tireless “Professor” who has kept audiences in stitches with his presentation of P.D.Q. Bach’s uniquely typical music since 1965,” said Eddie Cooke, president of the Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts. “The four-time Grammy award winner’s show has been called ‘the greatest comedy-in-music act before the public today’. “

In addition to his annual concerts in New York City, he has appeared with over 50 orchestras, ranging from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the London Sym-phony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to the New York Pick-Up Ensemble; and his self-contained show The Intimate P.D.Q. Bach (featuring the Semi-Pro Musica Antiqua) has played cities and campuses from Maine to California.

P.D.Q. Bach – The Jekyll and Hyde Tour’s performance is sponsored by Albemarle Eye Center, Elizabeth R and Dare County Arts Council.

  • Three Manteo attractions were in the Top 25:
    • Fort Raleigh National Historic site ranked 12th,
    • the North Carolina Aquarium Roanoke Island was 14th,
    • and Roanoke Island Festival Park rounded out the poll at number-25.

World Water Day & the Outer Banks

Surfrider Foundation - Know Your H2O

Surfrider Foundation - Know Your H2O

March 22, 2010 marks the 17th annual World Water Day:  International World Water Day is held as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The movement started as a focus on freshwater, but in reality all water is connected through the environmental cycle, so oceans have become a primary focus for World Water Day as well.  Since one of the greatest aspects of the Outer Banks is the vast Atlantic Ocean nestled up to the miles of be pristine beaches, World Water Day is an important day for all OBX lovers.  Without clean water on both sides of the Outer Banks, the islands would lose much of their appeal.

The Surfrider Foundation has joined the World Water Day crusade, and is promoting a new movement called “Know Your H2O.”  As a part of this movement, the Surfrider Foundation will be premiering it’s new movie The Cycle of Insanity: The Real Story of Water on March 22. Created by a cadre of volunteer activists, The Cycle of Insanity: The Real Story of Water details the journey of water as it moves through the hydrologic cycle, and the impacts humans have on this critical process.

It’s a fun movie that helps to put clean water in perspective.  You can view the trailer of the movie here.
