Pretty sweet news for the Outer Banks. Our very own Art’s Place was voted one of the top 5 hamburger joints in North Carolina by “Our State” magazine’s June 2011 edition. Art’s Place is a local landmark on the beach road in Kitty Hawk. They have awesome food and are starting open mic Wednesdays from 7-10 pm beginning June 8th. It is a pretty frequent lunch stop for us here at Seaside and we recommend anyone in the area should stop by and try some of their award winning burgers for yourself!
Thanks for reporting the great news OBXsurfinfo! To read more about Art’s Place check out the article or visit their facebook page.
Outer Banks - 5.31.11 - Lifeguard in Kill Devil Hills
Good afternoon. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, May 31, 2011.
This video was shot at the 5th St. beach access just south of the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills. I then stopped off at the Lillian St. beach access to grab the surf video.
Last day of May! Time flies! Hope y’all had a great Memorial Day weekend. Let the summer fun begin. The great stretch of perfect OBX weather continues. 80′s, sun, and light winds. I looked at the 10 day forecast this morning, and there was only 1 day with isolated t-storms. Other than that, it’s 80′s and sun for the foreseeable future.
In addition to a great stretch of beautiful weather, we’ve had a great streak of fun OBX surf. There has been waist high swell and offshore winds for about a week, and that streak continues today. Although, it could come to an end today. Surf is fun in the waist to chest range today, but the wind will switch onshore at some point today. We could still have some fun waves for the rest of the week, but without the offshore winds, the surf probably won’t be clean for the rest of the week…hopefully I’m wrong.
OBX fishing gets better everyday. Cobia have moved into the area. An 80 pound cobia catch over the weekend. Offshore is still seeing great dolphin catches, and a few blue and white marlin over the weekend. Near shore, bridges, piers, and the Sound are seeing a wide variety of catches – blue fish, spanish mackerel, croaker, spots, black drum, sea mullets.
Looks like the Outer Banks has done it again! Dr. Beach, the beach expert names the OBX as one of the best beaches in America noting its great board surfing, lighthouses, and historic fishing villages.
Here is the list of the top 10 beaches across the U.S:
1. Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida 2. Coronado Beach in San Diego, California 3. Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii 4. Main Beach in East Hampton, New York 5. Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks of North Carolina 6. St. George Island State Park, Florida panhandle 7. Beachwalker Park Kiawah Island, South Carolina 8. Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts 9. Waimanalo Bay Beach Park on Oahu, Hawaii 10. Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, Florida
We feel so fortunate to be in the top 5 and hope that everyone has a chance to experience the beauty that the Outer Banks has to offer.
Outer Banks - 5.27.11 - Great start to Memorial Day weekend
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Friday, May 27, 2011.
This video was shot just north of the Avalon Pier at the Hayman St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills.
Great start to Memorial Day weekend! The streak of great weather continues. I think it’s been almost two weeks since we’ve seen rain. The plants aren’t digging it (nice pun huh?!), but we’re loving it! Perfect for the holiday weekend; sun, 80′s, light wind. Get out and enjoy the beach!
In addition to a streak of great weather, we’ve had a good streak of fun surf this week. There has been a southwest wind all week cleaning up a fun longboard wave. That will continue today. Not much out there, but it’s a fun little wave, and the weather is perfect. Doesn’t look like we’ll have any larger surf until next week sometime.
OBX fishing is going strong. Offshore is seeing dolphin with some yellow fin tuna mixed in, and the occasional bill fish. The piers and the bridges have been very consistent with blue fish and croaker with an occasional flounder mixed in. And the Sound is doing very well with sea mullet, blue fish, croaker, and some flounder.
Nothing says summer like a little bit of baseball! Come out and join Outer Banks’ very own Daredevils for their opening game next Tuesday May 31st at First Flight Baseball Field. Grab some peanuts and cracker jacks and take the family and friends for a fun filled night of baseball.
The Daredevils are a summer collegiate baseball team offering experience to college level players for a chance at the pros. To learn more about the Daredevils check out their website for some awesome pictures and video and make sure you look at their upcoming schedule!
Never know what might happen at a game! See you there!
Outer Banks - 5.25.11 - Beauty at Avalon Fishing Pier
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Wednesday, May 25, 2011.
This video was shot at 9:00 AM at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills.
The great summer-like weather continues. Another beauty today with sun, temps in the upper 80′s, and a light SW wind. This weather is going to stick with all the way through the weekend…and hopefully into next week. Tough to beat summer weather in May!
The light southwest wind is cleaning up a fun longboard wave very nicely. I was surprised to see how fun the wave is this morning. I wasn’t expecting much, but when I walked over the dunes, I saw consistent waist high, clean waves coming through…and almost no one in the water. Great day to get went and catch a some fun waves.
The OBX fishing is going strong. Very consistent reports offshore, near shore, piers, bridges, and the Sound. A wide variety of fish in the area – tuna, dolphin, cobia, blues, spanish mackerel, sea mullet, etc.
Unfortunately, not much out of the surf yet, but as the water continues to warm, the surf casting will continue to get better.
I have always been a big fan of Yoga and Pilates. I took classes in college but never really had the time to get as involved with it as I would like. After moving to the Outer Banks I wanted to find somewhere in town that offered mixed level yoga sessions that I could do after work on the weekdays. I found Outer Banks Yoga just looking around online but still hadn’t had the time to get down there for a session. I was super excited when I found out that Outer Banks Yoga was actually one of our Club Seaside partners and offered vacationers free sunrise yoga sessions, as well as discounted yoga packages. So lucky right!? Well it turns out I got lucky too because I thought what a perfect place to include in our Outer Banks Treasure series! When I talked to Michelle, the owner of OBX Yoga she was nice enough to offer me a free beginners yoga class with Anne and I jumped right on it. I was glad that all my intentions of visiting the studio turned into a reality.
Outer Banks Yoga
It is kind of funny because when I arrived at the studio I thought it was perfect. In a sense the location of the studio represented Yoga itself. Just a small place in a big world where you can become one with yourself and focus on opening up your heart, mind and body. It was great because they provided all of the mats, blocks, blankets, and all the equipment you would need to just drop in and take a class. That worked out well for me because like I said I was a little rusty in the Yoga world
I thought it would be neat to take a little video of the opening of the session to really allow our vacationers and audience an opportunity to see for themselves the studio from the inside and a glance at how the class operates. Of course I didn’t want anyone to see too much because I want everyone to find out just how great Outer Banks Yoga is for themselves. In such the hustle and bustle of life it is important to take a minute to stop, relax and find yourself. Sometimes you get caught up in your surroundings and concentrate more on the people around you that you forget to understand your own thoughts and feelings. Yoga is the solution and also provides you with strengthening exercise for your mind and body.
Take a look at the video and don’t forget to visit Outer Banks Yoga’s website for a full class schedule and if you are a Seaside guest make sure you stop by for your complimentary yoga session. There is no better way to spend your vacation then relaxing on the beach after a morning Yoga sesh!
Great sun rise over the Sound this morning. Gorgeous OBX day ahead. Sun, upper 80′s, and a light west wind. Not much surf; maybe a longboard wave. Fish are biting – offshore, near shore, piers, bridges, and Sound!
Local Outer Banks teacher, Charles Temple of Ocracoke School recently won $100,000 on a Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament. Island Free Press shared a neat article offering his story from beginning to end- from getting the call from Jeopardy! producers to making final jeopardy wagers.
Charles talks about all of the obstacles he faces through the whole experience sharing behind the scenes moments with Alex Trebek and show corespondents, and his friendships made with fellow competitors. This is a must read for fellow Jeopardy! fans like myself and best of all it is awesome to be able to say a fellow OBX’r won one of TV game shows most challenging competitions.
