Outer Banks Treasure: Corolla Outback Adventures Wild Horse Tour
If you haven’t got a chance to see the wild horses that roam the northern beaches of the Outer Banks, it is a must see, add it to your
bucket list now! All i can say is it is absolutely beautiful to see these horses in their natural habitat, and amazing what our community does to protect them.
Since i have lived in the Outer Banks I have seen the horses before, usually one or two along the beach in Carova. I never had been on actual tour, or knew all the history associated with the reason they are on the island. I was so excited to have the opportunity to join Corolla Outback Adventures in a tour with some other Seaside employees. It was definitely a treat
It was a bumpy ride but we got to see some great landmarks and were lucky enough to see a ton of wild horses, including a baby horse that was only a few weeks old. We also got to have some fun driving through the back “roads” hitting some big hills and even trudging through some water! The best part of the trip was on the ride home….while making our way back to Corolla we saw some horses on the beach and they were…. well you are just going to have to watch the end of the video to find out!
If you are a Seaside guest you can take advantage of our Club Seaside program which includes Wild Horse Tours. Visit our page for reservations with Corolla Outback Adventures.
OBX Pic O’ the Day: Quiet Morning in Kitty Hawk
Quiet morning on the beach. Some morning fog is burning off. A great beach day ahead, 90′s and bright sun. Light south wind blowing some fresh salt air. There is a little longboard wave, but not much. Fish are biting – offshore, near shore, piers, bridges, surf, and Sound.
Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 7.20.11 – Great summer day…
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.
Great summer day, and some great beach weather. The heat has returned. Temps have jumped back to the 90′s and will stay hot through the rest of the week. A gorgeous day today with sun, temps in the low 90′s, and a light offshore wind out of the southwest.
The offshore wind is cleaning up the small swell we have. Some knee high surf coming through. An ok longboard wave, but it’s pretty flat. We’ll continue to have the southwest wind and knee high swell for the rest of the week. Some fun longboarding to be had.
There is a tropical storm roaming in the Atlantic. TS Bret formed off of Florida a few days ago. It shouldn’t be a threat to the OBX. It seems to be moving out to sea, and the surf forecast doesn’t look too promising, but there is still hope that Bret could send some surf our way by the weekend. We’ll see.
Lots of tight lines for OBX fishing. Offshore is catching yellow fin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and some bill fish mixed in. The piers, bridges, Sound, and surf are very consistent with a wide variety of fish – croaker, spot, sea mullet, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, trigger fish, flounder, blue fish, and cobia.
Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

OBX Pic O’ the Day: Great Beach Day
The mild temps have given way to some summer heat! Great beach day. 90′s & sun. Nice offshore wind out of the southwest. Pretty waist high surf; real clean with the offshore wind. Tight lines all around; fish are biting – dolphin, tuna, wahoo, cobia, blue fish, croaker, flounder, spot, speckled trout.
Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 7.18.11 – Perfect Beach Day
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Monday, July 18, 2011.
This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills with a quick stop at Lillian St. in Kitty Hawk to grab some surf video.
Happy Monday! The gorgeous weather from the weekend is carrying over to today. We’ll have temps in the low 80′s today with bright sun and a light wind out of the southwest. The temps will jump back to the 90′s tomorrow, and we’ll continue the heat wave for the rest of the week. Great beach weather!
The light offshore breeze out of the southwest is cleaning the knee to waist surf that we have in the area. Fun longboard wave and warm water in the 70′s. The waist high swell should stick around most of the week, and the wind should cooperate most the week, so we’ll have a fun, albeit small, surf most of the week. There is also a chance that tropical storm Brett that just formed off the coast of Florida could send a little swell our way later in the week. We’ll see.
OBX fishing is going strong. Offshore is catching dolphin, yellow fin tuna, wahoo, and some bill fish mixed in. The piers, bridges, surf, & Sound are all very consistent with a wide variety of fish – spot, croaker, blue fish, speckled trout, flounder, and some cobia.
Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 7.15.11 – Windy but gorgeous…
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Friday, July 15, 2011.
This video was shot at the Kitty Hawk Pier at 9:00 AM.
Half way through July! Time flies, but we still have a lot of summer left. A bit windy on the sandbar, but a gorgeous summer day and a great weekend ahead. Bright sun, blue skies, and temps in the 80′s all weekend.
We’ve had a couple days of stiff northeast wind, and the ocean is a bit rough as a result. No swim flags are flying this morning. The good news about the wind is that it is sending a cool breeze on shore with some fresh salt air, and it is pushing the warmer water closer to shore. Water temps are up to the mid 70′s. Great day to be in the water once the red flags come down.
Unfortunately no surf to report. The swell is here, but the surf is a mess from the wind. The swell should stick around for the weekend, but so will the east wind, so good surf is not likely. Keep your fingers crossed for early next week.
Outer Banks fishing is going great. Offshore is catching yellow fin tuna, dolphin, wahoo, and bill fish. The piers, bridges, Sound, and surf are are very active – croaker, speckled trout, spot, blue fish, Spanish mackerel. But every day is unique based on the conditions – wind, water temps, clarity of the water, etc. Since we’ve had the northeast wind for a couple days, we’ve seen a big increase in flounder with some great keepers, so flounder is the hot catch right now.
Hope to see you soon. Have fun!
