Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:45 AM.
Great winter weather today. Overcast to start, but temps getting over 60 by the afternoon. Temps will cool down for the end of the week, and be back to 60 for the weekend.
We have an offshore breeze at about 10 mph out of the southwest adding a little chill to the air. That breeze would be cleaning up the swell if we had any, but there’s not much surf to report. If you have the itch to get in the water it could be a longboard day…good day to be outside, but not much surf. Better day for fishing. Doesn’t look like we’ll have much surf the rest of the week. Swell will build, but the wind will be onshore until the weekend.
OBX fishing is decent. There are good reports out of Oregon Inlet of offshore boats hooking up with good sized blue fin tuna. We also had a great report from our friends at Rock Solid Fishing over the weekend saying they hooked up with a good school of stripers and were hauling in 30 pounders. That’s the only report of stripers I’ve heard though. Fingers crossed we get a good striper bite soon.
Hope to see you soon. Have fun!
