James Cameron – Director & Deep Sea Diver – The Ultimate Blue Mind?

Did you follow the excitement around famed director James Cameron over the weekend?

On Sunday, Cameron successfully took a solo dive in a “submersible” – i.e. a solo submarine – to the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trench – 35,756 feet below the ocean’s surface!

Yes, this is the same James Cameron that directed classics like; The Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Titanic (1997), and Avatar (2009).

You can find a full overview of of Cameron’s deep sea adventure on CNET. He spent three hours exploring the scene 35,756 feet below the ocean’s surface, and as a great film director would do, he was documenting all along the way. Cameron’s submersible, “Deepsea Challenger,” contained 3-D cameras, an eight-foot lighting tower, a sediment sampler, a robotic claw, and, most delightfully, a “slurp gun,” which can suction-up tiny creatures. Amazing.

This makes me wonder, is James Cameron the ultimate Blue Mind?

Alright, it’s impossible to determine who loves the ocean the most – I think I’d rival James in the love department…not the bank account. But for all of the negative publicity Hollywood typically generates, there is something great about a Hollywood insider dedicating himself and his resources to a passion as rewarding as the ocean.

James, thank you for your efforts. Your mind is as blue as they come…and here’s a picture to prove it.

What’s that, you ask? Why that is James Cameron – Hollywood director and deep sea explorer – showing off his Blue Marble to represent his Blue Mind…and his love for the ocean.

What’s the deal with the Blue Marble?? I’m glad you asked.

“Saving the ocean one blue marble at a time.”

There’s only one true Blue Marble. You live on it.

From a million miles away this is what we look like: small, blue and gorgeous. On this delicate piece of the universe we’ve inherited the gift of life. Here we have everything we need to nourish our bodies and care for our spirits. It’s ours to love, nurture and share for generations to come. Everything about it matters.

Cherish your Blue Marble. It’s the only one we have.

BlueMarbles.org was created  to help spread the Blue Mind message. It is a fun, intuitive way to promote the Blue Mind ideas by sharing Blue Marbles. The blue marbles help to draw people’s awareness, and gratitude, towards the oceans.

Read more about The Blue Marble Project, including how to purchase your own blue marbles, how to share your blue marble stories, and how you can play the BLUEGAME yourself.

We are very proud to say that ALL 2012 reservations with Seaside Vacations will be receiving a Blue Marble at check-in to help spread the message and give us all a small reminder to be mindful of the amazing world we live in.

Here’s a Blue Marble on the OBX…

I read about these marbles making their rounds at the Copenhagen climate meeting in 2009; now I’m excited to have one of my own.  I will have to think of some great ocean adventure to take my marble on before I find just the right person to pass it off to.
