Seaside Vacations Helps Spread Some Holiday Cheer

With the stress of the holidays, shopping, cooking, and all the other hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, we often lose sight of the real meaning behind Christmas. Here at Seaside Vacations we want to give the ultimate gift of hapiness for families that are less fortunate or unable to buy presents to put under their trees. Through the Angel Tree program we have adopted a family of 4 children and another family with one child to collect donations in hopes to make a Merry Christmas for them. For every donation Seaside will match all collections and hopefully together, we can fulfill each child’s wish list.

If you are interested in giving a donation to Seaside’s sponsored families, please make checks payable to Seaside Vacations and send them to:

4820 N. Croatan Hwy. P.O. Box 3339

Kitty Hawk, NC 27949

Remember that we will match 100% of your contribution and no matter how much the donation, every little bit helps. Join Seaside Vacations in bringing a smile to these childrens faces on Christmas morning. Merry Christmas!

Fine Line OBX Art Contest: Proceeds to Benefit Hotline

What a sweet followup to our recent Outer Banks T-Shirt Contest! Fine Line is a non-profit clothing brand that donates 100% of its profits to a different local charity each year. The designs for the clothes are selected from entries submitted by local Outer Banks artists in their annual art contest. This year Fine Line is donating to the Hotline Outer Banks, a private, non-profit human services organization that provides crisis intervention, temporary shelter, information and referrals, advocacy and prevention education services to residents of and visitors to the Outer Banks.

If you are an OBX local and interested in submitting a design, keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be something you created specifically for this contest, it can be an older piece of art you think you would make a great t-shirt design. To make a submission you post it directly to Fine Line’s facebook wall. The contest is open until  November 31st. Good Luck!

Here is a winning design from Season 2 of the contest.

Outer Banks Surf Competition: Throw Down North of Town

Outer Banks Surf Contest: 2011 Throw Down North of Town

Outer Banks Surf Contest: 2011 Throw Down North of Town

Some local OBX boys doing good and giving back to the community they love.

Three years ago, local Outer Banks’ers (is that a word?…probably not), and surf enthusiasts, Greg Sherman, Stephen Lamm, and Randy Jones decided that they wanted to do something for the OBX community they hold near and dear to their hearts. So, they figured they would stick to something they know well, surfing. And the Throw Down North of Town surf competition was born.

The contest was started with the mindset of developing  it into a yearly event where local surfers from the Outer Banks could come together, enjoy a day at the beach, compete, and most of all support a great cause.

The annual surf competition is open to everyone (although this year there will be a pro heat!), and the event is designed as a fund raiser for an Outer Banks charity. The charity changes year to year based on need.

In 2009, all proceeds went to support the Surfrider Foundation. The 2010 proceeds and donations were handed over to the Rainey family to help with some major medical expenses for a 13 year old suffering from a brain aneurysm.  The 2011 proceeds will be donated to the Outer Banks Cancer Research Center.

A huge boost for the event also comes from the help of local OBX pro surfer, Noah Snyder and Hurley, who will be on site enjoying the show and adding to the festivities.

It’s a great event with some awesome Outer Banks people, great OBX vibes, all for a fantastic cause. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for great weather, and even more important, some great surf.

Seaside Vacations’ “Vacation With A Purpose” Campaign Benefits Hurricane Irene Victims

Outer Banks: Hurricane Irene

Outer Banks: Hurricane Irene

Seaside Vacations is joining local efforts to assist Hurricane Irene victims by promoting their “Vacation with a Purpose” campaign.

Seaside Vacations, a leading vacation rental company located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is using their “Vacation with a Purpose” program to support those in the community that need a helping hand due to Hurricane Irene. They are encouraging employees, homeowners and guests to join their mission by participating in the program.

Seaside Vacations guests can make a difference just by booking an Outer Banks vacation. From September 1 – 30, 2011, Seaside Vacations will donate a portion of its revenue for all September vacations to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation. By booking an Outer Banks vacation with Seaside, guests will be helping hurricane victims rebuild their lives and helping the Outer Banks rebuild their community.

In addition, guests and homeowners may also donate directly to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation by sending a check made out to the Outer Banks Relief Foundation to Seaside Vacations, Attn: Hurricane Irene Relief, P.O. Box 3339, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949. Any amount would be greatly appreciated and the donation is tax deductible.

“Each of us has an Irene story. Many of us have suffered damage, seen strange things, lost valuable stuff and even experienced injury. Regardless of what our own individual situation may be, even those who may have come through relatively unscathed, we have all experienced individual and collective trauma. The loss in our tight-knit community is extensive and the need for assistance is great,” says Gordon Jones, President of Seaside Vacations and Coldwell Banker Seaside Realty.

Kitty Hawk Kites: 5th Annual Watermelon Festival 8/11

Join Kitty Hawk Kites and the Wright Flight Foundation for the 5th Annual Watermelon Festival, Thursday, August 11 from 10-4, at the Kitty Hawk Kite store in Nags Head (mile post 12.5) for a big outdoor summer bash with a homegrown backyard feel. This event will have tons of fun for kids and adults of all ages including a dunk tank, moon bounce, inflatable obstacle course, watermelon seed spitting distance contests, pie eating contests, t-shirt tye dying, face painting, and of course, tons of watermelon!

Kitty Hawk Kites staff will be on site teaching kids how to use juggling sticks, balance boards, and letting them try out top selling toys. There will also be great music, food vendors on site, and one of the best raffles on the beach and over $2000 in prizes.

Proceeds from the Watermelon Festival go directly to the Wright Flight Foundation–a local non-profit that rewards 5th graders, who achieve their academic goals, with flight! The foundation has helped improve performance in local school districts and has given children the opportunities to do things like hang gliding, tandem hang gliding, and plane rides, that they may have not been able to do before. Students are also educated about the history and basic principles of flight.

Check it out! What a great cause and a very creative way to motivate students. See you all there!
