Outer Banks: 2.24.12 - Clouds & Wind, But Feels Like Spring at Avalon Pier

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Friday, February 24, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access at 8:30 AM.

We have clouds, a stiff wind out of the southwest at 15-20 mph, and some scattered thunderstorms on the way, but temps will hit 70 today!

Enjoy the spring-like conditions while they last. Temps will dip back to 50 for the week. But the bright sun will make a comeback.

There a knee to waist swell in the water, but the offshore wind is pretty stiff. There could be a longboard wave if you can find the right spot.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Skate and dog fish at Jennette’s Pier and some tuna offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, February 2, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 9:00 AM.

Happy Ground Hog Day! Unfortunately, Mr. Phil saw his shadow this morning, so more winter on the way. But with a winter of sun and 60 degree temps, who can complain?!

Overcast and some showers to start today, but hopefully we’ll see the sun by the afternoon. 60 degrees and a light offshore breeze out of the southwest. Temps will cool to the low 50′s for the weekend, and the sun should stick around.

No surf to report. The ocean is flat. Swell will pick up tomorrow, but that’s only because the wind is going to switch to the northeast and kick up some wind swell. Could have some knee high longboard waves over the weekend, but nothing substantial.

OBX fishing is slow, but a couple ok reports. Good reports of tuna offshore. And in the not great but we’ll take what we can get category, word is there was a big school of speckled trout just north of the VA/OBX border yesterday. Fingers crossed that we see a good bite of something soon.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Great week ahead. Sun with 50-60 degree temps, and offshore wind all week.

Unfortunately, Outer Banks surf looks minimal this week. Knee high swell may pick up a little towards the end of the week, but it looks like a mostly flat week.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Some good tuna catches offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 16, 2011.

This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

It’s a pretty start to the week, but it feels like January; sun, 45, and a light northeast breeze. This week will be a bit of a roller coaster; 60 degrees tomorrow, and back to the 40′s for a couple days before heading back to 60 for the weekend.

No surf to report today. A little swell, but the wind isn’t cooperating.

Outer Banks fishing had a decent weekend. Boats out of Oregon Inlet are hooking up with some big tuna. Our friends over at Rock Solid Fishing reported some great catches of rock fish in the 30 pound range.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun.

Outer Banks: 1.10.12 - Pretty Winter Day in Kill Devil Hills

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, Fishing Report for January 10, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills.

Pretty day with mild winter weather. The chilly wet day yesterday has given way to bright sun, temps in the mid 50′s, and a light onshore breeze out of the northwest.

Temps will get up to almost 60 degrees over the next couple days, and then cool off to the mid 40′s heading into the weekend.

Unfortunately, no surf to report. The swell is small and the wind is onshore. The wind should switch to the southwest on Thursday, so there could be a fun knee – waist longboard wave and temps around 60; could be a fun day to get in the water.

OBX fishing is slow. Water temps are around 50 degrees, so the good news is that some large stripers should be here any day.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Outer Banks: 1.5.12 - Great Winter Weather

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, January 5, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:45 AM.

I’m happy to say the mild temps have returned. It’s been a chilly couple days, but the cold front has moved off and the wind has slowed down. We have bright sun and temps around 50 degrees today, and temps will warm up to 60 moving into the weekend.

The wind has switched to the southwest at about 10 mph, so we have a nice offshore breeze cleaning up the surf. Unfortunately, the swell is only in the knee high range. Could be a fun longboard day if you have the itch to get n the 50 degree water. The swell will stay small for the next few days.

OBX fishing is slow, but with the cooler water temps, we should see some good striper action soon.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Beautiful weather to close out 2011. Bright sun, blue skies, light offshore breeze out of the southwest, and temps around 60 degrees. Perfect weather to celebrate the New Year at the beach.

Not much surf to report. There’s a pretty little wave out there, but it’s small. Could to a good day to enjoy the weather with a longboard.

OBX fishing is slow, but stripers are showing up; so hopefully we’ll have a good bite soon.

Have a safe and happy New Year. Hope to see you soon. Have fun!
