Reality Television Show Set to Shoot in Corolla

Yes we are serious! The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported that a new series “Getting Away Together” on PBS will begin filming in Corolla tomorrow for the 4th of July celebrationat Heritage Park.

The series is going to spotlight vacationers at 13 spots around the country and one of them is the Outer Banks! It will include a week of sightseeing for 17 family members, most of them from Atlanta Georgia.

Currituck and Dare counties split the $97,500 cost of producing, filming and promoting the show as a way of also promoting the Outer Banks. The series is expected to air this Fall on PBS. Yay for reality TV!

Free Concert and Fireworks on the Outer Banks

Cochran to Perform at July 4 Celebration

Currituck County’s 17th Annual Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display will be highlighted by a concert by country music star Stephen Cochran. The celebration, set for Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla, will get underway at 5:00 p.m. It will also include a fireworks display, children’s games and activities, and food vendors, as well as live music by local band The Boomerangs.

Stephen Cochran’s performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the fireworks show to start at dusk. Cochran, a decorated Marine veteran who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, released his latest single, “Wal-Mart Flowers,” on April 13. The single is currently climbing the country music charts.

Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit Thanks USA, a non-profit organization that provides post-secondary, need-based educational scholarships to children and spouses of active-duty U.S. military personnel.

* NO ALCOHOL will be permitted on the grounds of Currituck Heritage Park,

* NO ON-STREET PARKING will be available, and

* The boat ramp at the Whalehead Club will be CLOSED on July 4.

* No fireworks are allowed on Currituck County property other than those provided by the Independence Day Celebration. Fireworks use on private property also has limitations. Currituck County adheres to state law, which states it is illegal for any person to use, ignite, or explode any firecracker, torpedo, sky rocket, sparkler or other device that explodes, rises into the air or travels laterally, or fires projectiles. This ban does not pertain to hand-held wire sparklers, glow worms, party poppers or string poppers, which are legal.
