Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report: 2.9.12 – Pretty Day. Chilly Wind.

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, February 9, 2012.

This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

Pretty day with bright sun, blue skies, and temps in the 50′s, but there is a chilly wind out of the northwest at 10-15 mph. Temps will cool to the 40′s over the weekend, but the sun will stick around. Temps will be back to the 50′s early next week.

Surf is a mess today from the NW wind, but we could see a longboard wave tomorrow. The wind will switch offshore tonight and be real light out of the southwest tomorrow morning. There could be a clean knee to waist wave to start the day tomorrow, and that wave will fade through the day.

OBX fishing is slow. Dog fish and skate at Jennette’s Pier and tuna offshore. Other than that, it’s quiet on the fishing front.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, February 7, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:40 AM.

Pretty day. Sun & 50′s. This weather is going to stick with us all week. Although, there is a chilly wind out of the north at about 10 mph.

No surf today. A little swell, but it’s fading and this north wind isn’t cleaning it up. Looking ahead, not much surf to report. The swell will be small and the will be onshore. The wind will switch offshore on Friday, so there could be a tiny longboard wave, but nothing substantial.

Some good news for OBX fishing. This is all rumors, but I’ll pass it on anyway. A few isolated reports of flounder, puppy drum, and speckled trout in the area. Not sure where or how much. Still getting good reports of tuna offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, February 2, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier at the 5th St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 9:00 AM.

Happy Ground Hog Day! Unfortunately, Mr. Phil saw his shadow this morning, so more winter on the way. But with a winter of sun and 60 degree temps, who can complain?!

Overcast and some showers to start today, but hopefully we’ll see the sun by the afternoon. 60 degrees and a light offshore breeze out of the southwest. Temps will cool to the low 50′s for the weekend, and the sun should stick around.

No surf to report. The ocean is flat. Swell will pick up tomorrow, but that’s only because the wind is going to switch to the northeast and kick up some wind swell. Could have some knee high longboard waves over the weekend, but nothing substantial.

OBX fishing is slow, but a couple ok reports. Good reports of tuna offshore. And in the not great but we’ll take what we can get category, word is there was a big school of speckled trout just north of the VA/OBX border yesterday. Fingers crossed that we see a good bite of something soon.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Beautiful start to February. Quiet and peaceful morning at the beach. Bright sun, blue skies, offshore breeze out of the southwest, and temps in the 60′s.

Ocean is absolutely flat. No surf.

Fishing is slow. Good tuna catches offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Great week ahead. Sun with 50-60 degree temps, and offshore wind all week.

Unfortunately, Outer Banks surf looks minimal this week. Knee high swell may pick up a little towards the end of the week, but it looks like a mostly flat week.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Some good tuna catches offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:45 AM.

Wow! Gorgeous weather. Feels like spring. Bright sun, blue skies, light breeze, and 60 degree temps. Great winter day on the beach. And this weather will stick with us heading into the weekend.

Not much surf to report. Knee to waist swell. The wind is light at 5 mph out of the south this morning, but it will move around a bit today. So there won’t be much chance for the waves to clean up.

OBX fishing is slow. Some dog fish, tile fish, and skate in the area. Some good blue fin tuna catches out if Oregon Inlet. Unfortunately, no stripers.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

No surf.

Some good reports of blue fin tuna catches around Oregon Inlet.

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report: 1.17.12 – Great Winter Weather

Outer Banks: 1.17.12 - Great Winter Weather

Outer Banks: 1.17.12 - Great Winter Weather

Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:45 AM.

Great winter weather today. Overcast to start, but temps getting over 60 by the afternoon. Temps will cool down for the end of the week, and be back to 60 for the weekend.

We have an offshore breeze at about 10 mph out of the southwest adding a little chill to the air. That breeze would be cleaning up the swell if we had any, but there’s not much surf to report. If you have the itch to get in the water it could be a longboard day…good day to be outside, but not much surf. Better day for fishing. Doesn’t look like we’ll have much surf the rest of the week. Swell will build, but the wind will be onshore until the weekend.

OBX fishing is decent. There are good reports out of Oregon Inlet of offshore boats hooking up with good sized blue fin tuna. We also had a great report from our friends at Rock Solid Fishing over the weekend saying they hooked up with a good school of stripers and were hauling in 30 pounders. That’s the only report of stripers I’ve heard though. Fingers crossed we get a good striper bite soon.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

OBX Moment of Zen: 1.16.12 – Feels Like January

Outer Banks: 1.16.12 - Pretty at Avalon Pier

Outer Banks: 1.16.12 - Pretty at Avalon Pier

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 16, 2011.

This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

It’s a pretty start to the week, but it feels like January; sun, 45, and a light northeast breeze. This week will be a bit of a roller coaster; 60 degrees tomorrow, and back to the 40′s for a couple days before heading back to 60 for the weekend.

No surf to report today. A little swell, but the wind isn’t cooperating.

Outer Banks fishing had a decent weekend. Boats out of Oregon Inlet are hooking up with some big tuna. Our friends over at Rock Solid Fishing reported some great catches of rock fish in the 30 pound range.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun.
