Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, February 6, 2012.
This video was shot at the Kitty Hawk Bath house at 8:30 AM.
Pretty day. Sun, 50′s, light wind. Maybe a couple spots of rain, but this weather should stick with us all week.
Some swell in the area, but the surf is messy this morning. The wind is northeast to start, but will be moving around throughout the day. So there is a chance the surf could clean up a bit. The rest of the week looks flat; maybe a longboard wave on Friday.
Outer Banks: 1.31.12 - Awesome Winter Weather in Kitty Hawk
Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks, Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
This video was shot at the Kitty Hawk Bath House at 9 AM.
Happy last day of January. Time flies. I din’t want to jinx us, but we have had amazing winter weather so far. The next few days will be bright sun, blue skies, southwest breeze, and temps in the 60′s. Hard to beat that winter weather.
Unfortunately, the ocean is flat. No OBX surf for the next few days. The swell will pick up towards the end of the week, the wind will switch to the north at the same time, so clean surf is unlikely this week.
OBX fishing is slow. Dog fish and skate at Jennette’s Pier, but no stripers. The good news is there is good action offshore with tuna. Boats out of Oregon Inlet are giving consistent reports of hooking up with blue and yellow fun tuna.
Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 23, 2012.
This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 8:30 AM.
Foggy start, but the sun is fighting its way out. Mild temps in the 60′s. Mild week ahead with temps 50-60, some spots of rain, but mostly sunny.
Big swell in the area today. Still a bit messy this morning, the light southwest wind should clean up the surf throughout the morning. Chest + surf today, and as the swell fades, waist + surf tomorrow.
OBX fishing is slow. Still waiting on the striper bite. The good news is we are still getting reports of big blue fin tuna offshore from the boats out of Oregon Inlet.
Outer Banks: 1.12.12 - Great Winter Day in Kitty Hawk
Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, January 12, 2012.
This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 8:45 AM.
Beautiful winter day. Sun, 60 degrees, and fun surf. The offshore wind out of the southwest is a bit strong at 10 – 15 mph, but overall it is a gorgeous day.
Unfortunately, temps are going dip down heading into the weekend. The sun will stick around, but temps at 60 today will drop to 45 tomorrow and through the weekend.
The surf is fun today. Clean waist high sets coming through. The southwest wind is a bit strong, but a fun day to be out there. Surf should be the same tomorrow, but the drop in air temp will take some of the fun away.
Unfortunately, OBX fishing is slow. Still waiting on a good striper bite. The good news is that boats out of Oregon Inlet have been hooking up with some decent tuna over the past few days.
By the way, now is a great time to start thinking about your summer vacation. You can find out more at www.OuterBanksVacations.com.
Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, January 3, 2011.
This video was shot just south of the Kitty Hawk Pier at 9:00 AM.
Happy 2012! A chilly start to the New Year. The gorgeous weather over the weekend has cooled off. Temps at about 40 degrees today with a stiff northwest wind at 20 mph. The sun is shining, but it’s chilly. It will be chilly tomorrow as well, but the temps will warm up to 60 for the weekend.
Decent waist to chest swell in the area, but the strong northwest wind isn’t helping. The wind should switch to the southwest tomorrow around noon, so there could be some clean waves tomorrow afternoon.
Fishing is slow. Some decent reports of stripers out of the surf over the weekend, but no reports the past day or two. Fingers crossed for a good striper bite.
Now is a great time to start planning your Outer Banks summer vacation. Please give us a look at www.OuterBanksVacations.com.
Good morning. Here’s your Outer Banks, Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 9:00 AM.
Only 5 days until Christmas. Wow, time flies. This my last report until after the holiday, so I want to wish you a merry Christmas. I’ll be back soon.
Great day for my last report before the holiday. Great weather and fun surf carrying over from yesterday. Sun, 50′s, light offshore breeze out of the southwest. Looking ahead we could have a few spots of rain, but nothing extensive. Looks like Christmas week will be mostly sunny with temps around 60…perfect OBX Christmas weather.
The surf is fun today. Waist to chest high and real clean with the southwest wind. The offshore wind will stick around through Thursday morning. The swell will fade, but fun surf will stick around…even if it is a bit small. Gotta love surfing on Christmas week…thanks Santa.
OBX fishing has slowed down, but the good news is that the stripers are arriving. Sporadic reports of some great catches. Over the weekend, our friends at Rock Solid Fishing reported a 50 pound striper hauled in at the Oregon Inlet bridge. Definitely some big fish showing up, and we should have a great OBX striper bite real soon.
Have a great holiday. Hope to see you soon. Have fun!
Outer Banks: 12.19.11 - Great Start to Christmas week
Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, December 19, 2011.
This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 8:30 AM.
Beautiful day. Great start to Christmas week on the Outer Banks. Sun, 50′s, light southwest breeze at 5 mph.
Waist to chest surf with clean conditions.
Fishing is slow, but the stripers are arriving. Our friends at Rock Solid Fishing reported a 50 pound striper being hauled in yesterday the Oregon Inlet bridge.
OBX Moment of Zen filmed at 9:15 just south of the Kitty Hawk Pier. Beautiful day; sun, 60 degrees, light north wind, and empty beaches. No surf. Slow fishing.
Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
This video was shot at 9:00 AM at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk.
Time is moving quickly. Already December 6th. Holidays will be here before we know it. But how about a perfect December beach day to keep us smiling?!
Wow it’s nice today! Sun, upper 60′s, light southwest breeze, fun surf, empty beaches, and the speckled trout are biting. Can’t ask for much more than that.
Temps will cool as we get closer to the weekend, and should be a seasonable 50 degrees by Saturday.
The offshore breeze is about 5-10 mph out of the southwest, and it’s cleaning up the chest high swell we have in the area, so it’s a great day to catch some OBX surf! The swell will stick around through tomorrow, and the wind will be out of the southwest tomorrow, but it’s going to pick up to 15-20 mph. So the surf should be decent tomorrow, but today is probably the highlight of the week.
OBX fishing is starting to slow down, but we’ve still got some good activity. Offshore they are catching yellow fin tuna. We’re getting limited reports from the piers these days since Avalon, Outer Banks, and Nags Head are closed for the season, but Jennette’s and Kitty Hawk are reporting speckled trout in the area. The big ObX fishing news is that we are starting to get reports of stripers in the area. A 40 pound striper was hauled in at the Oregon Inlet bridge over the weekend. As the water continues to cool, we should start to see some great striper bites! Stay tuned.
