Outer Banks: 1.27.12 - Soggy & Warm in Kitty Hawk

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Friday, January 27, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Kitty Hawk Pier at 8:45 AM.

Warm weather feels great. 60′s today. But we are starting with some clouds. Morning t-storms are moving out, and hopefully we’ll see the sun this afternoon.

Sun will stick around for the weekend, but temps will dip to the 50′s.

A little swell in the area, but no surf this morning. The wind is stiff out of the south pushing the t-storms out. But we we could see a good wind switch to the southwest after lunch that could clean up the swell for an afternoon surf session. Small window of opportunity, so keep your eye on it.

OBX fishing is slow. Tuna offshore. Some dog fish and tile fish around Jennette’s Pier, but still no stripers.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 23, 2012.

This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk at 8:30 AM.

Foggy start, but the sun is fighting its way out. Mild temps in the 60′s. Mild week ahead with temps 50-60, some spots of rain, but mostly sunny.

Big swell in the area today. Still a bit messy this morning, the light southwest wind should clean up the surf throughout the morning. Chest + surf today, and as the swell fades, waist + surf tomorrow.

OBX fishing is slow. Still waiting on the striper bite. The good news is we are still getting reports of big blue fin tuna offshore from the boats out of Oregon Inlet.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Windy and wet this morning. Temps in the 50′s, rain, and a stiff northeast wind. Temps will dip to the 40′s Thursday and Friday and then back towards 60 for the weekend.

No surf.

Some good reports of blue fin tuna catches around Oregon Inlet.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 16, 2011.

This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

It’s a pretty start to the week, but it feels like January; sun, 45, and a light northeast breeze. This week will be a bit of a roller coaster; 60 degrees tomorrow, and back to the 40′s for a couple days before heading back to 60 for the weekend.

No surf to report today. A little swell, but the wind isn’t cooperating.

Outer Banks fishing had a decent weekend. Boats out of Oregon Inlet are hooking up with some big tuna. Our friends over at Rock Solid Fishing reported some great catches of rock fish in the 30 pound range.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun.

OBX Moment of Zen: 1.13.12 – Here Comes the Sun

Outer Banks 1.13.12 - Pretty Sunrise in Kill Devil Hills

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Friday, January 13, 2011.

This video was shot at the Oregon St. beach access at 7:15 AM.

I was at the beach early this morning to catch the OBX sunrise. There were clouds on the horizon, so we don’t get to see the sun pop out of the ocean. However every sunrise is perfect in its own way, and it is a great Moment of Zen to watch the sky light up from that big ball of fire.

It is pretty day, but it is chilly. 60 degrees yesterday, and 45 degrees today. Add on a 25 mph southwest wind, and it is definitely a chilly day at the beach. It will be chilly all weekend.

There’s a little wave out there, but the wind is too strong…and the air is too cold. So, no surf.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Still hoping for a good striper bite. Boats out of Oregon Inlet have hooked up with tuna this week.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

This video was shot just south of the Kitty Hawk Pier at 8:30 AM.

It is a pretty January day on the beach. Almost no wind to start the day and the ocean is calm. Overcast today, but temps around 60 today and tomorrow.

Clean surf tomorrow when the wind switches offshore. Small, in the knee – waist range, but it should be gorgeous weather to be out.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Hearing good news of striper bites in VA, but we have not seen a good bite yet. Offshore is reporting good catches of tuna.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 9, 2012.

This video was shot just north of the Avalon Pier at the Hayman St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

Gorgeous weekend weather has given way to a rainy start for the week. The week looks mild with temps in the 50′s, but there may be a few spots of rain.

No surf to report. Maybe some clean surf at the end of the week when the wind switches offshore.

Outer Banks fishing is slow, but we should have a good striper bite any day now, and we’re getting some reports of rock fish in the Sound.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

This video was shot at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head at 10 AM.

Gorgeous Friday, and a gorgeous weekend ahead. Sun, 60, and a light southwest wind.

Knee high surf.

Slow fishing, but a great day to be outside casting. Stripers are o the way.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun.

Outer Banks: 1.2.12 - Chilly Start to 2012

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Monday, January 2, 2012.

This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 8:45 AM.

Happy 2012! The OBX enjoyed some awesome weather to ring in the New Year; sun and 60. But a cold front has moved in to start this week.

Temps have cooled off to the 40′s for the next few days and there is a stiff northwest wind at 15-20 mph. The good news is the sun is shining, and we’ll be back to the 50′s by the end is the week.

No surf to report today. Perhaps some clean waves on Wednesday when this northwest wind switches to the southwest.

Fishing is slow, but stripers are in the area. Some reports over the weekend of stripers out of the surf, and the birds have been working up and down the beach.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Outer Banks: 12.30.11 - Gorgeous End to 2011

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Friday, December 30, 2011.

This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 8:30 AM.

Beautiful weather to close out 2011. Bright sun, blue skies, light offshore breeze out of the southwest, and temps around 60 degrees. Perfect weather to celebrate the New Year at the beach.

Not much surf to report. There’s a pretty little wave out there, but it’s small. Could to a good day to enjoy the weather with a longboard.

OBX fishing is slow, but stripers are showing up; so hopefully we’ll have a good bite soon.

Have a safe and happy New Year. Hope to see you soon. Have fun!
