The Wingo de Mayo Festival is always a blast. Perfect time of year, as the weather starts to get hot, great people, great food, great music, and great adult beverages!

When: Saturday, May 7th
Where: Native Vine in Point Harbor.

This year’s event will benefit the Outer Banks Children At Play Museum, a non-profit organization that helps foster creativity in children through hands on learning.

The festivities will feature two separate events -the 6th Annual Wine and Beer Jam and the 3rd Annual Great Wing Cook Off.

The Wine and Beer Jam (12-5pm) offers more than 50 wines and beers from around the world. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day off.

The Great Wing Cook Off pits local restaurants and individuals against each other in the battle for the best wings. Guests can sample the wings and vote on their favorites! Tickets for the Wing Cook Off are $10 over 12 years, $5 8-12 years, and free under 8, and can only be purchased the day of the event.

Advance tickets for the Wine and Beer Jam are available at Native Vine, Chillli Peppers, Children At Play or online at www.nativevine.com. Children are welcome and there is no charge for those not tasting wine and beer or tasting wings.

Live music will be performed by Augmentals and OminOtago.

The Wingo De Mayo wine and beer jam is this weekend, May 8th and 9th! Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of and are now on sale at Native Vine

On Saturday, May 8th, the Wine and Beer Jam will host the 2nd Annual Wingo de Mayo Wing Cookoff!. The wing tasting tickets are $10 and are now available as well.

Under 21 may purchase Wing Tasting tickets AND attend the Wine and Beer Jam free, but of course cannot imbibe.

There will be a separate “grand reserve tasting” for $25 during the festival that you won’t want to miss!

Also, just booked, Mojo Collins as one of the bands on Saturday. Mojo Collins has played with or opened for Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin and Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Ike and Tina Turner, Muddy Waters, Leon Redbone, Sly and the Family Stone, Blue Cheer, The Spinners, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Keith Shealy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan!

Native Vine now has a newly created “beer tasting” license….so let’s take it for a spin.

This Friday we’ll do a combo Beer and Wine Tasting at 6:30pm, featuring some wonderful microbrews and wines, including a cab and pinot noir from Gundlach Bundschu at 30-40% of. The tasting will be just $10….and FREE with purchases of $30 or more per person.

Dear Friends, This Friday at 6:30pm and Saturday from 12-5pm we will be doing our annual Customer Appreciation Tasting……it is FREE…..our way of saying thank you for your business! You do however, need reservations, so please call us at 252-491-5311.

This week, as well, from Monday through next Sunday, we will be selling $100 gift certificates at the discounted rate of $85! We are now taking reservations for our tastings in December, which are looking like this:

New Year’s Eve
The 8:30pm Tasting is already booked full. There is still space on the 6pm tasting, which has been upgraded to mirror the 8:30pm tasting….same wines, same price of $75/pp. This will be an unforgetable tasting of wines that have scored between 95-100 pts. from either Wine Spectator or Robert Parket……as well as wines that have not yet been rated and wines that we just don’t care about the rating!! The complete list will be released shortly, but as a teaser, will include Dumol Chloe Chard AND Ramey Ritchie Chard (both 95 pts.) as well as Sea Smoke “Ten” Pinot Noir (ultra rare….retails for about $150, if you can find it). Light hors d’ouerves will be paired with the wines. For reservations, please call 252.49.5311. Yes, most people do dress up for this tasting, though it’s not required. Keep in mind that if you don’t dress up, you’ll look a bit shabby next to my “gold lamme” smoking jacket that is only allowed out of my house on New Year’s!

We are currently taking names on a waiting list for the 8:30pm tasting. Thank you for paying for your reservation for New Year’s Eve prior to Dec. 30th.

This weekend will be the 4th Annual Holiday Tasting Fest. This event has moved to the Point Harbor location this year. Come by between 12-5 on Saturday or Sunday and taste approximately 15 wines that will match up well with the upcoming Holiday meals and festivities……all for ONLY $10!! The7th Annual Outer Banks International Wine Festival will take place on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th at Native Vine in Point Harbor from 12-5 pm daily. This year’s event will benefit local animal charities, including the Corolla Wild Horse Fund and The Friends of Pooh. Attendees will be able to taste 50 plus wines from around the world!

This event is kid-friendly…..if you have friendly kids! The Corolla Wild Horse Fund plans to bring out a rescued “wild horse”! No dogs please.

Tickets are available at Native Vine Nags Head, Native Vine Point Harbor, Chilli Peppers or by calling 252-491-5311. Prices are as follows:

Advance Tickets $25…day of $30….includes tasting glass
VIP Tickets $100….includes “pro grade” tasting glass, VIP lunch and VIP Reserve Tasting, in addition to a $35 donation to the charities.

There will be two bands playing each day, including The Karl Werne Project, DC3, Mercy Creek and The Little Kings. Go to the band section to see the band lineup .

Parking is available onsight. There is no charge for parking.

There will be food available for purchase from Mike Dianna’s Grill Room and Seaside Gourmet.

Local artisans and vendors will be selling their goods as well.

We are looking for event sponsors and for donations for a silent auction. If you or your business would like to be a sponsor, please contact Kenny at 252-491-5311. You’ll get lots of great press, inclusion in advertisements and a general sense of feeling like you done something good! Business sponsorships start at $300, and include two VIP tickets to the Festival. Individual sponsorships are $100 and gets you one VIP ticket.

VIP tickets will be sold this year for $100 each. You’ll get a “pro” grade tasting glass, gourmet lunch, and admission to the VIP Reserve Tasting ($30 on it’s own), in addition to the Festival admission.

Tickets for the Festival are now on sale at NV1 and NV2 or by calling 252-491-5311. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of. Two day passes are available for $40.

If you or someone you know has something they are willing to donate for the silent auction, please let me know. Auction items that tend to do well are spa packages, oceacfront home rentals, restaurant gift certificates, artwork, etc.

Kids are always welcome! The current music lineup includes Karle Werne Project, Mercy Creek, The Little Kings and DC3 (Gibb Droll’s Band from Tidewater)!

If you would like to volunteer for the Festival, please contact Kenny. Volunteers will be asked to help pour wine and anything that arises. We will feed you and give you admission to the event!

Cabs Around the World

Dear Friend,

Though I tend to drink whites in the summer, we continue to sell far more reds than whites, even in summer. Particularly in the heat of July and August, try chilling down your reds in the fridge for 15 minutes or so before you serve them…..a slight chill is appropriate (about 62 degrees). The wine will warm up quickly….about 4 degrees as soon as you pour it. Over 70 degrees the alcohol component of the taste of the wine becomes more pronounced than the fruit.

In as much, let’s do a cab tasting in the middle of summer!

This week we will be doing our reserve tastings on Thursday and Friday at 6:30pm. The theme is ”Cabs around the world”……we’ll be comparing cabs from S. America, Europe, Australia and the US. The tasting is just $20. Please call for reservations to 252-491-5311.

For the value conscious (and who isn’t these days), our line of Coastal Vine wines from California are selling really well. We have Cab, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio all at $5.99…and all true to the varietal (means they taste like they are supposed to taste).
