OBX Moment of Zen: 2.22.12 – Prefect Winter Day

Outer Banks: 2.22.12 - Perfect Winter Day at Kitty Hawk Pier

Outer Banks: 2.22.12 - Perfect Winter Day at Kitty Hawk Pier

Good morning. Here’s your OBX Moment of Zen for Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

This video was shot at the Kitty Hawk Pier at 8:30 AM.

Perfect winter weather. Warm sun, bright blue skies, light offshore wind out of the southwest at 5-10 mph, and temps in the 60′s. And this weather will stick with us the next few days. Awesome.

Swell has faded considerably from yesterday, but there is still a knee to waist wave in the water, and the offshore breeze is shaping a clean, pretty longboard wave. This wave could stick with us tomorrow too.

Outer Banks fishing is slow. Skate and dog fish at Jennette’s Pier and tuna offshore.

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

OBX Pic O’ the Day: Perfection?

Fall on the Outer Banks is ideal – warm air, warm water, empty beaches, fun surf, and great fishing.

Outer Banks: 9.13.11 - Perfect in Kitty Hawk?

Outer Banks: 9.13.11 - Perfect in Kitty Hawk?

It’s tough to find true perfection, but today is awful close to a perfect fall day on the OBX.

It would be nice to see some more size in the surf, and maybe slightly cleaner lines, but it’s darn close to perfection.

All the elements of a great beach day – Sun, 80′s, empty beach, almost no wind (very light west breeze), water at 75 degrees, waist high surf, & fish are biting!

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Great sun rise over the Sound this morning. Gorgeous OBX day ahead. Sun, upper 80′s, and a light west wind. Not much surf; maybe a longboard wave. Fish are biting – offshore, near shore, piers, bridges, and Sound!

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 4.7.11 – Perfect Spring Day

Outer Banks - 4.7.11 - Perfect Spring Day

Outer Banks - 4.7.11 - Perfect Spring Day

Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Thursday, April 7, 2011.

This video was shot at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at 9:00 AM.

It’s great to be back on the Outer Banks, and thanks to Brittany for doing a great job filling in for me with the reports while I was gone. I was in Hilton Head, SC for a vacation rental conference, and I can say Hilton Head is a nice beach, but it is no Outer Banks!

Perfect spring day today. Bright sun, blue skies, and temps around 70 degrees. This weather should stick with us for through the weekend with temps in the mid 60′s and sun.

We have a nice offshore wind heading out of the southwest at about 10 mph. Perfect wind to clean up the surf, but unfortunately, there’s only a trace swell coming through today…about ankle high. The good news is that the swell should build over the next couple days, and it looks like the wind will match up late Saturday and early Sunday for some clean chest high surf. It looks like Sunday morning may be the best bet, but I’ll keep an eye on it.

OBX fishing is going strong and picking up steam. It’s been a bit slow for the past couple days, but the variety of reports is increasing. We are still getting reports of blue fin tuna catches offshore, with some yellow fin mixed in as well. Puppy drum catches have been reported in the Sound, a flounder catch at the Little Bridge heading to Manteo, a rock caught in the Sound, and now that the piers are open again, we got a report of a croaker and a sea mullet caught at Avalon Pier. Nothing consistent and only one fish at a time, but it is a sign of what’s to come. As the water continues to warm, the fishing will continue to increase.

Enjoy!

Sun rise on the Sound. A little chill in the air, but pretty day. Temps around 50 degrees today. There is a light north wind at about 10 mph and no clouds in the sky. No surf today. Blue fin tuna are biting offshore and puppy drum in the Sound. Hopefully some catches out of the surf soon.

OBX Pic O’ the Day: Clouds Roll In

Outer Banks - 3.24.11 - Rain Clouds in KDH

Rain clouds have rolled into the OBX. The sun is trying to fight through, but it seems like it will be an overcast day. Temps in the upper 50′s. The wind should be switching to the north, but it is still blowing out of the west this morning, and cleaning up the ground swell coming in. A fun little wave in the water. Blue fin tuna and puppy drum are biting.
