Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 8.1.11 – Happy August!

Outer Banks: 8.1.11 - Happy August

Outer Banks: 8.1.11 - Happy August

Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Monday, August 1, 2011.

This video was shot at the Sutton St. beach access in Kill Devil Hills at 9:00 AM.

Happy August! Summer is flying by, but we have some great summer weeks left, some amazing summer weather, and the best time of year on the OBX is getting close.

As an FYI, it’s a pretty safe bet that fall on the Outer Banks is the best time of year; summer weather, warm water, empty beaches, great surfing, great fishing…ah, the perfect time to be here.

Today is pretty great too, and this week is shaping up to be a great beach week. Temps will hover around 90 all week, bright sun, and cool ocean breezes.

We even enjoyed some morning thunderstorms today before the sun came back and the temps started to warm up. It was a pretty cool scene on the beach. To the north you could see the dark thunder clouds moving off, and to the south, the sun was out and the great beach day was under way.

Unfortunately, no surf to report. Nada. Pretty much flat, and any bump is from the east/southeast wind, so not much chance of waves today, and the rest of the week doesn’t look much better. The swell could jump to the keen to waist range towards the end of the week, but we’ll need to keep an eye on it. Not too promising right now.

On the flip side, OBX fishing is going great. Offshore is catching dolphin, wahoo, yellow fin tuna, big eye tuna, and some bill fish mixed in. The bridges, piers, surf, & Sound are all very consistent with a wide variety of fish. Every day changes based on the conditions, but we’re seeing…blue fish, Spanish makerel, spot, croakers, sea mullet, trigger fish, cobia.

In fact, we got a great fishing report from our friends at Rock Solid Fishing (www.RockSolidFishing.com), and they had a great weekend of cobia fishing. About 6 keepers, and a few were over 60 pounds! Some great fish in the area!

Hope to see you soon. Have fun!

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 11.29.10

Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Monday, November 29, 2010.

This video was shot just south of the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills at about 9:00AM.

Great start to the week. Bright sun, not a cloud in the sky, temps in the upper 50′s, and a light east wind. The wind is pretty much straight off the ocean onshore. Very refreshing wind sending the sweet smell of salt air to the beach.

Tomorrow and Wednesday should be in the upper 60′s, maybe even hitting 70 degrees to start the month of December.

Today is probably the best bet for fishing for the next few days. The light wind is cleaning up the water nicely. The winds will pick up tomorrow, and as the water gets choppy and the dirt moves around, the fishing tends to slow down.

There are trout, stripers, and few drum. We’re still waiting for the big drum and rock fish to show up. The off shore fishing is doing well with tuna.

Unfortunately, there is no surf today. The forecast is calling for swell in the range of 5 – 6 feet towards the end of the week, and the winds should switch to the south/southwest at the same time. Hopefully we’ll see decent surf Thursday and/or Friday.

Enjoy!

Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report – 11.5.10

Good afternoon.  Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Friday November 5, 2010.

I’ve been out of town for a few days on a business trip, but it’s great to be back home.  It’s amazing how much you can miss the ocean…even for a just a few days.

This video was shot in Kitty Hawk around 3PM.  Today is a beautiful fall day.  Temps in the mid 60′s and bright sun.  The next few days should be about the same.  Mid 50′s to mid 60′s and bright sun with a light west wind – 5-10 mph or so.

The light west wind is perfect for some great surf we have coming in.  Head high, clean OBX surf.  We are still in the waiting period for the Battle of the Banks, and hopefully that goes off in the next few days.  This video ends with some great waves at Lillian St. in Kitty Hawk.

As for fishing, the water is clear and in the mid 60′s with the piers reporting a lot of speckled trout.  As the water cools more, we should start to see some additional fish in the area.  The next month or so should be ideal OBX fishing.

Enjoy.

Outer Banks Beach & Surf Report – 10.14.10

Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach & Surf Report for Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Great OBX fall day. Starting out with bright sun and temps in the upper 60′s. There’s a chance of rain this afternoon, but hopefully it passes us by. The temps should stay in the upper 60′s to lower 70′s for the next few days.

The wind is still here though. About 10 mph out of the ENE today, but it should swing around to the NW in the next day or two, and it will start blowing hard…upper teens to lower 20′s. So, it should be a warm but breezy weekend.

Unfortunately, no surf to report, but the fish are biting…a lot of Blues at the Avalon Pier in the past couple days.

Enjoy.
